Restaurants & Pubs in Polperro, Cornwall that are dog-friendly

Polperro in Cornwall has lots of dog friendly aspects including pubs, cafes and restaurants. There are loads of options to eat out or have a drink in Polperro in Cornwall to suit all tastes. I have only included pubs or restaurants that I have eaten a meal or had a pint in. There were plenty of others in the village of Polperro that I didn’t visit this time.

Seafood Platter

My modus operandi when eating out on my visit was to find dog-friendly places. It is not possible to leave the dog at the campsite alone. Thus, these venues either allow pets inside or have a garden area with table service.

Some of the best place for food and drink that we visited in the village.

The Three Pilchards a Nice Place For Seafood

This is the venue of my favourite meal out in Cornwall on my recent trip. The Three Pilchards Pub is located very near to Polperro harbour. It is a quaint little pub with a sizeable garden with spectacular views. The Three Pilchards are dog-friendly and very popular because of its quality fresh food.

They don’t have a booking system, but you need to pop in and request a table. The pub will then call you as soon as the table is available. This system is to prevent queuing in the narrow village streets, especially helpful during busy times. On requesting a table, they let you know an approximate time and always call back.

Most of the restaurant’s capacity is on outside tables in the garden above the main pub. The garden has some fantastic views of the village and is a nice place to dine.

Drinks

For drink, they had a Cornish Pilsner, called Offshore, that I have enjoyed many times. They had other options for continental options too, but my policy on this trip was to drink locally produced beers.

Food Starters

The food menu had some great options and really tickled my tastebuds. I had read about the magnificent seafood that they served here, so that influenced my choice. One starter enjoyed was the Crab Bisque, a creams crab soup that was delicious, creamy and very well cooked. They served this with granary bread and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Crab Bisque

My favourite starter at the Three Pilchards was the Three Ways Scallop & Tiger Prawns. This included 3 tiger prawns and three scallops presented in three shells, all cooked in different ways. One was tandoori, one with garlic, and the other with chorizo. All three were tasty, with no overpowering flavours. I enjoyed the fishy flavours with mild notes of the spicy flavourings.

Three Ways Scallops

For the main course was a sharing dish for two people known as The Pilchards Cold Platter For Two. This was a big plate of seafood heaven for me and become my favourite dish of the trip. There were generous portions of seafood and filled me right up. The platter included Smoked Mackerel, mussels, gamba prawns, peeled prawns, white crab and smoked salmon. Salad, fresh bread, and homemade slaw accompanied this.

Pets were very welcome, and the pilchards even had a dog treat box on the menu. This included a variety of biscuits in a nicely presented box. This was a very enjoyable lunch out and it’s one of the best restaurants in Polperro. https://www.threepilchardspolperro.co.uk/

Noughts & Crosses a Dog Friendly Pub

Noughts & Crosses

Located off the main tourist roads are the Noughts & Crosses, a pub and guesthouse that was a delight to visit. The pub always had seats available and at other times quiet, so was very convenient for me. The pub served some great beer, including a Cornish Lager called Sulis and the party cider, Rattler.

The Pub was welcoming and was completely dog-friendly with bowls and fuss. Some seats had plug points. Which are convenient for campers to charge phones, cameras. The Noughts & Crosses also had working functional wireless internet that I utilised for backing up photos to the cloud.

Crumplehorn Inn & Mill a Pet friendly Eatery

Crumplehorn Inn

The Crumplehorn Inn is near to the bus stop and the village’s main car park. The pub has a very convenient location. This is an old-world pub with a waterwheel formerly powered by the River Pol and low ceilings. There is a fantastic beer garden, which is usually bustling with an outside bar for convenience.

Crumplehorn Cornish Lager

They have a host of local beers on draught, mainly by St Austell Brewery. These include the refreshing Korev and the Flavourful Propper job. For cider lovers, their jewel in the crown is Rattler. This is a cider that goes down like juice and tastes non-alcoholic despite the 6% on the label.

For food, in the summer, they continually serve the lunch menu, which has some nice items on it. I enjoyed the salt and pepper squid, which was fresh and tasty and served with fries. Their chilli beef was tasty too and very well presented.

They had burgers, scampi and fish and chips for regular pub grub, the burger was pretty special and very juicy. The pub is very dog friendly and was bowls of water provided to keep them hydrated. Many canine conversations went on and little meets and greets in passing.

The Ship Inn

On the main road, on the way to the harbour, is the blue building of the Ship Inn. A place that is good for a drink or meal out, they have a heat trap patio. They also have inside seating depending on your preference. This place has a selection of beers including Tribute Pale Ale, a local keg beer. This beer is full of flavour or you could opt for some Sharps Offshore Pilsner.

Eating out was great here. On a Sunday, The Ship Inn Served a special barbeque menu. The barbeque menu included Pulled Pork or Brisket in a bun with optional sides. They cooked this well and were delicious, especially complimented with the kick of horseradish sauce. Also on the menu was a garlic cooked cod dish served with tender stem broccoli. This was local fish, that they perfectly cooked and were full of flavour.

The ship is a great place to eat out or just have a drink on the patio. The problem is when they have a band on the seats, get reserved quickly. http://www.shipinnpolperro.com/

Polperro Seafood And Sandwich Bar

Under new ownership are Polperro Seafood And Sandwich Bar on The Combe, the main village street. This is a friendly place and a great option for brunch. Their bacon sandwiches are divine and made with care and served with friendliness. The prawn and crab sandwiches were also delicious and had a generous portion of filling.

The Sandwich bar has outside seating, which they kept immaculately clean and is a very slick operation during the new normal. They serve sandwiches to the outside tables, some with shade, which is great for dogs on hot days. A nice touch was the offer of a bowl of water and a few treats.

Coffee Cake Create a nice cafe in Polperro, Cornwall

The contemporary Coffee Cake Create is a coffee shop on the way into the village and is nicely decorated. They also have an ice cream bar to serve passing customers with some pretty-looking options. I visited for hot drinks on the misty mornings for an Americana and after reading the menu one of their highly decorated hot chocolates to warm me through. If I had to get some work done on the laptop while in the area, I would choose this place because of the relaxing vibe, free Wi-Fi and the plug sockets.

Coffee Cake Create a dog friendly cafe

This was a very nice venue for me. They had a comfy sofa, which was nice to chill after a night in the tent. As a bonus, Coffee Cake Create had some wall sockets to give the phone and vape a boost as we enjoyed warm drinks. Table service was the norm here after ordering. The tray arrived, looking great with a tiny bowl of treats for the puppy. The cafe had lots of local art on the walls, all for sale, which added to the great vibe of the establishment.

The Blue Peter Inn a Fantastic Pub

Near the harbour is the historic Blue Peter Inn, which oozes character. It attracted me to this pub after reading Google reviews before visiting the village. The common feature was the mention of the food and atmosphere. The Blue Peter was outside sitting only. All food and was table service by the very attentive staff once you get allocated a seat on arrival.

Blue Peter Inn Polperro - Seafood Platter

For drinks was my favourite refreshing lager, Korev, which as usual refreshed and satisfied me. There was only one dish I was ordering after reading reviews before I arrived. The Seafood platter very much appealed to my taste buds with a massive side of chips. Our platter arrived, served in a box with throwaway wooden forks. The dish included smoked mackerel, various types of prawn, and some delicious white crab meat. I left feeling full and satisfied and was a great first meal out in Polperro.
